Artemisia douglasiana is a broadleaf deciduous perennial with green foliage. In fall and summer green and yellow flowers emerge. Attracts bees, birds and butterflies making it an excellent addition to pollinator gardens. Grows well with sun - dappled shade and even moisture - occasional water. Adapts to various soil conditions. Does well in acidic, alkaline, average, clay, gritty, lean, rocky and well-drained soil.

This herbaceous perennial grows 1-3 ft tall, and is a choice foliage plant. Its aromatic leaves are dark green on top and silvery beneath, which provides nice contrast. In the garden, use Mugwort in a lush, riparian setting. Plant tolerates more shade and heavier soils than other sagebrushes. Historical uses include its use as a tea to soothe poison oak rashes. Though we haven't tried this yet, this plant is also reported to produce lucid dreams when placed under your pillow. Blooming period: June to October From California to Nevada and north to Washington and Idaho. Provides cover for small birds and animals and seed for birds. The Ohlone people treated earaches, rheumatic pain, wounds and asthma. Kashaya Pomo used it to wash sores and treat stomach ache and cramps. The Chumash used it as a tea to soothe poison oak rashes. Found in low, waste places; stream banks; foothills. Communitites located in Yellow Pine Forest, Foothill Woodland, Chaparral, Valley Grassland, many plant communities, wetland-riparian Between 0 and 6000 feet.
