Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Native to Texas and more commonly Mexico, this fine oak becomes a 40' tree with a rounded crown. The foliage is highly variable, ("Polymorphic" meaning several forms) generally simple and alternate, but often with several shallow lobes or teeth. The large leaves are leathery and semi-evergreen with distinct raised veins on the undersides. New leaves in spring are apricot-colored! Older specimens show dark-gray flaky-plates on the bark. Makes a great landscaping specimen for water wise gardens. S/M-D
