Nursery contributed plant descriptions

An elegant Campanula relative with copious nodding cobalt blue bell-shaped blooms that are large and slightly tubular on wiry reddish stems. Deep green leaves are toothed. It's monocarpic, biennial or short-lived perennial usually flowering in it's second summer then often dies BUT persists by setting plenty of seed. Worth the trouble because it's ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL BELLFLOWERS in this group. It prefers dry, well-drained soil in Sun/PS, often best in a rock garden. From Romania, Bulgaria and Yugoslavia, on shady cliffs or rock outcrops in the mountains.

Superberly beautiful, purple flowers in huge numbers basically nonstop all summer. Blooms are produced in such large numbers that it generally blooms itself to death and acts as a biennial. Which is sad. But in my old garden it seeded around happily, so it wasn't much of a problem. Happy in light shade, and seems to be quite tolerant of dry shade. Zone 5. - Joseph
