Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Monkeyflower. These have just been divided and potted late as of late January 2014 and are showing good growth buds. Normally we would wait until this fills out the pot nicely with roots but these will grow with no problem and we are looking ahead to when these will soon outgrow our shipping box dimensions as our stock plant exceeded 4' in our greenhouse last summer although it may be a little less outside in the garden. Native here and across most of the US in various expressions, this is a plant for moist to wet soils where the lavender pink flowers will just keep on coming most of the summer. Good pond marginal plant, rain garden or any bed that is fairly sunny and doesn't dry out. Good butterfly attractant.
Hummingbirds are regular visitors to the bright blue flowers of Monkeyflower. This fast-growing wetland plant is easy to grow from transplants or seeds. Combine with other low growing wetland plants such as Irises and Lobelias for a low profile rain garden. Hardy to Zones 3 - 9.
