Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Excellent plant for tough to grow areas such as dry shade with root competition. In late spring, pink and red tinted buds open up to white flowers which rise just above the large lemon scented foliage. Plants are somewhat evergreen...the foliage takes on red tones in autumn, and renews with fresh growth in mid spring. Plants grow 8-12" tall and spread with surface roots.
The cultivars of G. macrorrhizum are hard to live without once you've been introduced! Fragrant leaves form a low mound that spreads into a dense ground cover with good autumn colour. The flowers of this cultivar are lovely pink in late spring and early summer. The feature that will most endear this plant to you, however, is its tolerance of dry shade, even under evergreens. In these situations it will bloom less and grow shorter but will usually tough it out with minimal water once established.
A semi-evergreen perennial, forming low mat-like clumps of glossy, deeply lobed, rounded leaves. Throughout the warmer months, particularly in spring, small white saucer shaped flowers, with pink stamens, open from ruby coloured buds, atop short slender stems. Cut back when tired for a burst of fresh growth. Quick growing and very reliable. For any moist, lightly shaded position.
