Viburnum opulus var. americanum 'Bailey Compact'

Viburnum trilobum 'Bailey Compact' is a North American native cranberrybush, highly valued as an ornamentally beautiful, edible and cold-hardy shrub. In late spring it bears large showy white lacecap flowers followed by an abundance of magnificent scarlet berries from late summer to late winter. Young, 3-lobed foliage emerges brick red in spring, fading to green then taking on outstanding orange shades in fall. The smooth gray bark and gold branches add more interest to the landscape. The small, round sour berries are most often used in preserves. Plants are compact, upright and rounded 5 to 6 feet tall and wide. A great food source to attract birds. Makes for a beautiful addition to the landscape as a specimen, in a mixed shrub border, or as a hedge. Pollinator attractor. Deer resistant. A Canadian native from BC to Newfoundland.
