Nursery contributed plant descriptions

This delightful miniature version only reaches 2-4' yet its marvelous display of very early, deliciously-fragrant flowers is powerful. This shrub looks good all season with its interesting, heavily veined and deep-green foliage. Flowers are followed by fruit which turn black by autumn, just in time to standout against the burgundy fall leaves. A choice plant! This shrub is best planted in a protected spot so that frosts do not damage the blooms. S-PSh/M
Forgive me if this description is over the top, but this shrub really gets me going. You NEED one of these. Probably several. First, there are the flowers. Great masses of them, a wonderful shade of pink, and richly fragrant. Like, smell-it-across-the-garden fragrant. I'd flip for that flower display anytime, but even better, if blooms super early. Before forsythia, before any shrubs in the garden except witch hazels. As if that wasn't enough, it has lush, attractive foliage all summer, tinged nicely with red on the new growth, AND lives up to the 'Nanum' cultivar name by growing into a wonderful tidy, compact 3-4 foot sphere, perfect for the small (or just over-planted) garden. Oh, and get one while you can. We haven't listed this in years, but got lucky propagating it this spring. When these sell out, who knows when we'll be able to list them again. ?
