Nursery contributed plant descriptions

A brave giant in spirit, a delightful blue-green mini in stature, and this selection becomes a dense rounded shrub to only 3' in 10 years. S-PSh/M
By far one of the easiest conifer varieties to grow into bonsai form, 'Blauer Eichzwerg' is a dwarf form of the California Giant Sequoia that grows in a typical conical tree form but only attains a few feet in height. However, even though the tree remains short the trunk can develop a thick diameter of several inches which can be easily formed into an ideal bonsai specimen. Even without any pruning these trees seem to develop an ideal appearance of a scaled down old growth redwood.

Typical seedlings of this species can reach heights of 300 feet tall with trunk diameters of over 20 feet wide at the base in the mountains of California, and the closely related California Coast Redwood grows slightly taller and holds the record of the tallest tree species in the world. This tree gives gardeners the unique opportunity to grow a miniature form of an amazing giant that can fit into even the smallest corner of any landscape.
An introduction from Kool's Nursery in Holland. Foliage is gray-green and remains juvenile. Grows slowly and in 10 years is only 12 inches high and 6 inches wide.
Yes, it’s real: a small dwarf of the Giant Sequoia which has bluish foliage. Easy to grow mini tree for patio or balcony tree, or any of the small scale scenes such as fairy gardens, garden railroads, and troughs. Maybe be trimmed shorter and narrower or let grow untrimmed to about 3 feet tall x 2 feet wide at 10 years. Keep moist, protect from hot mid day sun. Give average soil with good drainage. Rare collector’s plant that is easy to grow and beautiful to look at. Shipping size 7+ inches, 2-3 years old.
