Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Salvia lycioides x greggii 'Ultra Violet' is a fast-growing and cold-hardy autumn sage that will attract hummingbirds and beneficial insects galore from midsummer to frost! The gorgeous violet-magenta, two-lip tubular flowers are borne in loose terminal racemes along upright stems with aromatic dark green leaves. It will reach 12-18 inches tall and 24-30 inches wide. It is much hardier than other Salvia greggii cultivars. Makes a super easy and appealing container plant for the patio, or combine with other deep purple, blue and white perennials in the garden. Plant in full sun in hot dry spots with well-drained soils. Hummingbird and pollinator attractor. Deer and rabbit resistant.
Intense violet-pink flowers (result of a hummer enjoying pink S. lycioides and blue S. greggii!) cover this compact and aromatic (no deer/rabbits!) 2' perennial late summer into fall; from the Ogden?s CO garden. S/M-D/GDr PPAF
Hummers will be ultra happy with this exciting new salvia! Electric violet flowers bloom from spring to summer on very little water. Cold hardy, too! Minimum temperature: -20?F
Selected by Lauren Springer and Scott Ogden in Ft. Collins, Colorado, this fantastic new hybrid originated from a hummingbird initiated cross between Salvia lycioides and Salvia greggii. Legions of iridescent deep violet-pink 2-lipped blooms dazzle upright flower spikes and fine cut glistening deep green foliage that shapes a compact rounded habit. Cold hardy 'Ultra Violet' lures butterflies, appreciates well-drained soil, withstands drought, rabbits and deer, and looks ultra-fine in just about any landscape. (uspp#21,411)
