Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Potentilla is a fantastic shrub for its heavy flowering in early summer when many other shrubs have finished their flowering cycle. It is extremely easy to care for and is tolerant of growing in poor soils and in both sun and shade. It does its best when planted in drier sites that are watered once per week or less and will survive desert conditions once established. It is also very cold tolerant, down to USDA Zone 3 but will also thrive where summers are very hot and dry (at our nursery, NOT having days on end with temperatures well above 100 degrees would be unusual, and Potentilla thrives here).
Plants look and flower their best when pruned back hard during the winter every few years. It propagates very readily from both softwood and hardwood cuttings, so when you prune you can stick some of the branches in the ground in new locations and get more plants!
Dense, deciduous, mounding shrub with tons of yellow blooms from June until the first frost in the fall. Fine-textured foliage is green throughout the season and turns yellow-brown in the fall. To keep a tidy appearance in the winter, remove old canes or cut back to the ground. Very cold hardy and drought tolerant. Nice choice for shrub borders or mass plantings. Growth Rate medium
