Fresh and stunning in the August September garden, this easy to grow gladiolus blooms on 2-3' stems amidst sword shaped foliage during August and September. Although listed hardy in zones 7-10, it is generally suggested to dig up corms in the fall after the foliage dies back. Formerly known as Acidanthera, this glad multiples quite generously. This spring we planted up some, 3 corms per pot and now have some vigorous plants that will bloom in your late summer garden. Named for plant explorer E H (Chinese) Wilson's daughter, Muriel. Limited supply, so 3 pots per customer.
While there's been a fair amount of back and forth in recent years about the correct family to assign Peacock Orchids to, there's been no squabbling about their beauty and garden value. With a demure form, like a shy young girl with downwards cast eyes, the flowers bob on gently bent stems. Why Grow Acidanthera/Peacock Orchids? Distinctive white flowers with bold wine markings These members of the iris family are related to wild gladiolus Fragrant flowers summer through frost Peacock orchids prefer somewhat moist soil and hot afternoon sun, especially in zones 7 and 8. Provide these conditions and they'll flower through the fall until frost.

A fragrant glad? Yes! And it's so graceful and different that even glad-haters love it. Its exotic, late-blooming, ivory flowers with purple hearts dip and sway on sturdy, arching stems. Collected from the mountains of Ethiopia in 1844, it reached America by 1888 when it was featured as brand new in Garden and Forest magazine. Formerly Acidanthera, nowGladiolus callianthus 'Murielae'
This exotic Gladiolus relative is native to the Ethiopian mountains. It is as fragrant as it is beautiful, and is hardy to zone 7 at least. Produces a succession of flowers from late summer into fall. Here in Arizona it grows between 1 and 2 feet, but in areas with cool summers it can grow to 4 feet tall! Bulbs are 6-8 cm round bulbs. A close relative to Gladiolus, this is commonly called the "Peacock Orchid". A very strong grower and mulitplier in the garden. Cold Hardy to zone 7. In colder areas it should be dug for the winter to ensure its survival. 6/8 cm bulbs.
Geometric white blossoms have a dark purple eye on 3' stems and its sweet perfume fills the garden on late summer evenings.
