Gold leaves that do not burn in full sun! In summer heat, the color brightens. A new introduction.
Summer Gold Japanese Maple emerges in spring with lite green-yellow leaves. This Japanese maple does not burn in the sun as most lightly colored Japanese maples do, making this a great tree to plant in a more sunny area of your landscape. Summer Gold Japanese Maple turn shades of orange and deep red in fall.
Has vibrant yellow leaves all summer. The leaves don’t burn like many golden foliaged foliage shrubs. The plant looks similar to A. ‘Sango Kaku’ minus the red stems.
A relatively new cultivar from Italy. The leaves of Summer Gold are relatively normal in shape and size to most palmatum-type maples. This cultivar grows more tree-like than a shrub. The new spring leaves emerge yellow and light orange. Gradually, they turn to light yellow in the summer – fall color is yellow to orange to scarlet red. The evolution in color from summer yellow to fall color is especially beautiful with Summer Gold. Prefers sun/partial shade in well-drained soil. Estimated growth in 10 years – 10′ tall x 5′. Once established Summer Gold is hardy to -20 degrees – USDA zone 5. Some pruning is recommended when this maple is young to form the desired structure of the tree.

'Summer Gold' was introduced by Fratelli Gilardelli Nursery in Italy which also produced Orange Dream. The two are similar in its yellow color, but Summer Gold will not burn in full sun! Fall color is bright yellow-gold. This upright maple will grow to 10 feet and makes a great accompaniment to any garden contrasting well with other maple colors.
This Japanese Maple is really amazing with its bright yellow spring and summer foliage. In late summer the color changes to yellow-green. Fall color is orange. This variety is especially nice when planted next to red leaf varieties.
