Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Victorious Gigante is a large growing colocasia with a unique growth habit, Its leaves look like the Giant water lily 'Victoria'
As a breeder I have found that as much insight and thought that one might put into the breeding of plants no one can truly know the outcome until the cross has been made and the seedlings grown out. Often we get surprises odd mutations or unforeseen behavior. This hybrid seems to be one of those amazing surprises that just happen. Colocasia Victorious Gigante ppaf is a large growing multi crossed Colocasia gigantea (Thailand Giant) hybrid. The plant looked to mimic one of my favorite plants the Victoria Water lily. I have always been very fond of the Victoria water lily, sense they are a botanical wonder. The problem is they are very tropical and not very easy to grow. One also needs a large pond to try and grow one. Few home owners ever get the chance to really grow one. I have a photo here of a Victoria water lily to show the similarities of it compared to Colocasia Victorious Gigante PPAF. First off Colocasia Victorious gigante ppaf may grow as a bog plant but should not be submerged. Both plants share have very large foliage. Colocasia Victorious gigante ppaf has large ruffled rounded to heart shaped leaves that can grow to be around 2 to 3 feet long and wide. The leaves are held on a pink to light pink petiole. The leaves edges fold up to form a rim, which is a key feature to the Victoria water lily. The foliage is also held more horizontally which adds to the overall effect. After seeing the rippled foliage, pink petioles and the large leaves with an upright rim around the edge. I could not help but think this plant is a Victoria water lily in and elephant ears body. So we gave it a name that shares the meaning of Victoria which is Victorious and added it to our Gigante series of new giant Elephant ears.
