Stromanthe sanguinea, or Triostar Prayer Plant, is a lovely foliage houseplant with spear-shaped leaves growing in an upright clump. The variegation is gorgeous, with splashes of green, cream, pink and red. The leaf undersides are colored like red wine, and glow brilliantly when backlit. Triostar Prayer Plant prefers an evenly moist, aerated soil mix and a humid environment. Placing a humidifier or pebble tray with water near the plant will help with this. Bright, indirect light is ideal, avoiding direct, scorching sun rays. Protect from frost!
A little known but really great shade container plant! From the tropical forests of Brazil comes this member of the Marantaceae family (think Prayer Plant) with handsome burgundy, pink, white and green striped foliage. The leaves fold and unfurl depending on the available light but expect it to be open when grown in lots of shade. Plants grow 12-15" wide and 12" tall.
Stromanthe sanguinea 'Tricolor' a plant similar to a Calathea. Leaves are white pink and green. Plants grow to 1 to 3 feet tall. One of the most colorful variegated plants you can grow. Plants are rooted in 4 inch pots.
