Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Sauromatum venosum (Indian Giant) is a very interesting aroid found in India. There are at least two clones of the same species. I have grown them both side by side and though they are the same species they are very different. The form I have here is the Indian Giant form. This form has a much larger over all look compared to the other. The leaves are wider and larger than the more common species with petioles that are less spotted once mature. The flowers is over 2 feet tall. The plants I have for sale were grown from seed. The plants could be sent dormant in early spring or late fall. Sauromatum venosum (Indian Giant) grows great in shade to part shaded areas and does well in rich to clay soil. It is cold hardy surviving in zones 5 and colder with protection. Often compared to Amorphophallus this plant shares the common Voodoo lily name. The flowers are very similar and most voodoo lilies have a strong odor to their flowers. Foliage: Large divided leaf Flowers: Large spotted voodoo flower Height: 3 to 5 feet tall
