Saccharum officinarum 'Pele's Smoke' is a very ornamental sugar cane named after the Hawaiian volcano goddess Pele. The foliage is a dark purple to almost black color if grown in full sun. The trunks or canes are also a dark purple to black and have light colored rings around each nod. I have found this plant looks very ornamental if I clean the bottom section off to make it look more like a palm tree or cordyline.
