Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Saccharum officinarum Blue Ribbon Sugar Cane is a form of sugar cane used to make sugar. It is named blue ribbon due to the color of the stem/trunks which turn blue to almost purple in color. The leaves are narrow grass like and are also green to blue in color. Plants can grow up to 8 feet tall and can look very ornamental if the lower stems are kept clean to show off the dark colors. Great for tropical landscapes or large containers. Makes for an interesting piece an not to mention nice to cut and chew on if you want something sweet.
