Mature height of between 3'-4' This colocasia boasts dark green leaves with blue veins. Its large shield like appearence is truely a show stopper. Its cold hardy nature is perfect for northern gardens zone 6 and up.
Madeira' is a velvet, black-leaved dwarf selection to two to three feet that you long to touch such is the beauty of the foliage. Hardy as low as 6b (Oh my!), it makes a great tropical statement in the garden or in containers in evenly moist soil and full sun. It can also be grown as a marginal plant in ponds. Yellowish-white spathes and spadixes may appear in summer but are usually hidden by the foliage. Mulch in winter. If in a container, put it in a shed or garage.
Colocasia Madeirais a new introduction from Brian's Botanicals. We have been breeding these colocasias for cold hardiness and more dramatic colors. We have waited years for this plant to come to market. It is a smaller grower, 2 to 4' tall with new leaves that are green with blue veins. As the leaves age or are in full sun they will turn black. The stems are pink in color and it is a clumper. I use it as a boarder for my tropical beds. This plant has over wintered for 7 years in zone 6 Kentucky. We recommend growing it full sun, well drained area and only mature or well established plants should be left out for the winter cold. Adding mulch in colder climates can add to a vigorous show in spring. If you are growing basjoo, this plant will acts exactly the same way and adds tropical color to the landscape. Foliage: Black leaves new leaves are green with dark veins or in shaded areas. Flowers: Yellow spath Height: 2 to 4'
