Nursery contributed plant descriptions

During morning hours and at dusk, and during cloudy or rainy days, the color is a rare solid true lavender, while under a hot sun, the color is a plain reddish-purple. So, this is another of the so-called 'changelings', which is what I call a phlox that dramatically changes its' color depending on the light conditions or time of day. The stems and buds are dark, and the petals are self-colored, with no eye. Introduced pre-1954 by the famous British phlox breeder B.H.B. Symons-Jeune, who described the color as 'the new slate, which contrasts so well with modern bright colors.'
