This moderate 20' tree has simply stunning foliage. The maple leaves are dark purple underneath and are deep green splashed with white and pink above. In the sun the leaves absolutely glow with the purple and pink. An A. 'Esk Sunset' is always a conversation piece.
A sunset to remember! The new-foliage of this eye-catching 40' shade tree is irregularly splashed with pink, cream and green all summer with pink-purple undersides! A wonderfully different tree as each leaf is unique. The foliage is beautiful in autumn when it changes to unusual shades of apricot and copper. This tree is often mislabeled as Eskimo, but the name comes from the Esk Valley in New Zealand where this delight was discovered. S-PSh/M
Esk Sunset Sycamore maple is a stunning tree with an amazing coloration. The leaves have such a variety of white, green and pink variegation that no two leaves are alike. The undersides of the leaves are purple giving a wonderful contrast to the  variegated foliage and pink petioles. The fall colors of Esk Sunset Sycamore maple are bright orange and yellow. Mature height is between 15 - 20 feet tall.
Bright pink and white variegation accents the dark green leaves of this maple. A fantastic coloration that makes no two leaves look exactly alike! Patches, streaks, and splotches create a wonderful tapestry. A unique maple that really catches your eye! Al
Wow, what a tree! The outstanding variegated leaves sport an incredible mix of pink, green, and white with a bonus purple-rose underneath. In areas with hot summers, give it some afternoon shade to avoid burning. Also sold as 'Eskimo Sunset'.
This selection of the Sycamore Maple is simply stunning. The foliage has a purple underside with tops decorated in pink, green and white splashes. To avoid burning, 'Eskimo Sunset' should not be planted in afternoon sun, and it prefers moist, humus-rich soil. Its growth habit is generally smaller than the species, but larger than other variegated cultiavars, such as 'Brilliantissimum'. Growth Rate 10' in 10 yrs.
"Variegated" doesn't begin to describe this extraordinary cultivar of a species that generally lacks ornamental merit. In addition to the leaves being purple beneath, they're a kaleidoscope of astonishing variegation throughout. It doesn't burn in full sun, and is exceptionally drought resistant and cold hardy. Whether placed as an accent against larger, darker trees, or as a specimen up front, it will elicit comments from all who enjoy seeing it for the first time.
A wonderfully variegated maple for smaller gardens!? Leaves emerge with apricot tones and mature to dark green w/ purple undersides and heavily blotched and misted with white.? Due to the purple underside of the leaf, the white can appear light pink.? This is a unique tree and no two are alike. It prefers moist, well-drained soil in partial sun.? Avoid hot afternoon sun, as this can scorch the foliage.
New leaves orange-pink becomes green splashed with cream & pink, purple undersides. Zones 6-8.
Eskimo Sunset has a very unusual and varied leaf coloration. The tree is smaller than species, 10' in 10 years with a broad head. Zone 4.
Certainly one of the showiest maples our garden has been privileged to grow with tones of reddish-pink and green marbled with white. 25 ft tall in time, a somewhat pyramidal tree. It really shows off in the wind as the pink undersides of the leaves are revealed all at once. It was discovered as a chance seedling by John Wills at Trelinoe, his garden in the Esk Valley, which is on the east coast of the the North Island of New Zealand.
