Nursery contributed plant descriptions

An amazing new selection of the European Edelweiss, with an extended longevity and bloom time. The 4 years we grew it so far, we weren't able to kill a single one. They survived the hot summer of 2009 with temps between 98 °F and 104 °F for a week unscathed, on the west side of our house, with blooms and all. ‘Matterhorn’ can be grown like any other sun perennial, be it in a border or rock garden. It has a strong root system and fills out 3 ½” pots fast. Before planting, make sure to pull some of the roots out (we use the anvil blade of an old pair of pruners) and after the initial soaking-in after planting, keep moist for several weeks. This will ensure the plant establishes well. BEFORE ORDERING, PLEASE read very important information about growing Edelweiss on top of the Edelweiss main page.
