An amazing new selection of the European Edelweiss, with an extended longevity and bloom time. The 4 years we grew it so far, we weren't able to kill a single one. They survived the hot summer of 2009 with temps between 98 °F and 104 °F for a week unscathed, on the west side of our house, with blooms and all. ‘Matterhorn’ can be grown like any other sun perennial, be it in a border or rock garden. It has a strong root system and fills out 3 ½” pots fast. Before planting, make sure to pull some of the roots out (we use the anvil blade of an old pair of pruners) and after the initial soaking-in after planting, keep moist for several weeks.
