Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Attractive red-mottled new foliage ages to green and is evergreen. Bicolor flowers have spider-like purple spurs and rosy-white sepals. It prefers rich, well-drained soil. 12'' tall. Minimum temperature: -20 °F
Received as E. sutchuenense and listed as such in our 2009 catalog. Apparently, it's a new unidentified species found in Sichuan, China. Nevertheless, a very impressive species with exceptionally large flowers: 1 1/2" across. The outer sepals are pale pink, almost white. The extra long, horn-shaped petals are mauve-pink and recurved. The leathery leaves are mottled in spring and stay green through the winter (at least here in zone 8).
