Nursery contributed plant descriptions

This 12" mound of feathery ferny foliage is topped by masses of deep red-brown flowers summer-to-frost; an easy-going gem for borders and container gardens in warmer climates. S/M
Cosmos atrosanguineus is a Mexican species with rich, dark maroon, dahlia-like flowers with the fragrance of chocolate! ?Que rica! How can you resist? Combine with peanut butter plant (Melianthus major) to turn your garden bed into a Reese's peanut butter cup. Yum! 'Choca Mocha' is more compact and has a more intense chocolate fragrance than the normal form. This species is classed as zone 7-9 but I would recommend a winter mulch and dry well-drained soil. Extinct in the wild. ?Que lastima!
Some of us love chocolate. Some of us love dark colored mysterious flowers. When presented with a flower the color of rich cocoa plus a scent to match, how can we resist? This Chocolate Cosmos will grant you an abundance of flowers over the summer season, especially if deadheaded regularly. Grows 15-18" tall. Roots can be dug and stored like Dahlias if you live in colder climates. Limited supply for spring.
For the kid in us, a deliciously chocolate scented cosmos flower! The species was illustrated in Curtis' Botanical Magazine in 1883. This choice selection is more compact and flowers summer to fall. Maximum flowers in areas with warm days and cool nights. Grow in regular to rich well-drained soils; avoid wet clay soils as they may rot in such conditions. Develops a tuberose root that can be overwintered like dahlias in damp sand in a cool area. Keeping over will result in more robust plants the following years."
From New Zealand, Cosmos 'ChocaMocha' is both deep chocolate-burgundy in color and chocolate in fragrance. Yellow pollen contrasts brightly against this elegant small cosmos with reddish stems; enjoyed by bees and butterflies. 12" tall mounding growth habit. In colder climates lift the tubers as you would dahlias. Prefers better draining soils. It holds all the delight of a secret discovered! Minimum temperature: 25?F
