Nursery contributed plant descriptions

The scientific name is derived from the Greek and means "leaves fringed with lashes", although it requires a magnifying glass to reveal them. Evergreen in warmer climates, and only semi-evergreen in cooler situations, this perennial has a creeping, stoloniferous habit to 18" and features loose whorls of vibrant red flowers with just a whisper of orange. Flowers form from late spring until frost. Plant in full sun along the coast and part shade in interior situations, this is a sage that's best in well-drained soils with regular garden water. Hardy to 20° F. Mexico.
