Penstemon heterophyllus 'Catherine de la Mare' is a broadleaf deciduous perennial with green foliage. In spring and summer blue and purple flowers emerge. Attracts bees, butterflies and hummingbirds making it an excellent addition to pollinator gardens. Grows well with sun - bright shade and regular - occasional water. Does well in average, rich and well-drained soil. A good option if you're seeking something verticillium wilt resistant.

From July to October trumpet shaped blooms of blue-purple fade to opalescent sky blues on vigorous plants 2 x 2 feet.
(syn. P. heterophyllus Catherine de la Mare) A low growing, shrubby, semi-evergreen perennial. During the warmer months spikes of foxglove like bright blue-purple flowers with a touch of pink are produced.Try not to disturb the roots.All Penstemons prefer an alkaline soil.Much lower growing, with more of a shrubby habit than most of the other penstemons. It is also one of the very few that do well in shade and it always does better with at least a litttle shelter from the sun.

Low and spreading, to 12", with narrow, toothed leaves and handsome flowers that open blue then fade to violet-purple. This selection must have full sun or light shade in well-drained soil. A European hybrid developed from P. heterophyllus that commonly persists for 3 or 4 years, it is similar to the species, but with a slightly broader leaf.
