(HARDY GLOXINIA) We are so pleased to offer this gem to you! Leafy crowns to 12”…flower stems 2-3’ tall, June > July topped with outrageous clusters of 3” glowing rosy fuchsia pink blooms… and if that’s not enough, each bloom has a glowing yellow interior! This plant looks like it belongs in a tropical rain forest. Rich, porous soils, regular water, bright light – morning sun is ideal. A jewel for your garden!
It's curious to me why I don't see this stunning perennial in more gardens. Hardy gloxinia has masses of large, exotic, bright pink, trumpet-shaped flowers in late spring. The lush foliage looks somewhat like Acanthus (Bear's Breeches). It will rebloom if cut back after flowering. Photo courtesy of Walters Gardens.
The well-known hardy gloxinia, it's related to trumpet vine and not a gesnariad. This strain is perfectly hardy here as long as it is provided with very good drainage; they don't like wet feet in winter ZONE 5
This stemless perennial with foot-long basal leaves divided into toothed leaflets grows to 3' and is topped by 3" clusters of trumpet-shaped flowers. The flowers bloom from May to July and are rosy-purple with a yellow throat. Plant in a warm position in full sun or light shade with regular water and deep, porous soil. Hardy to below 0F.
