Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Hailing from Down Under, Australia's 'Pillar of Smoke' explodes with 6 to 8 in. whorl-branched panicles of silky copper-colored flowers that age to a smoky silver. The amazing floral plumes are held on sturdy, jointed stems amidst towering clumps of bright green foliage. Undaunted by wind, poor soils and some drought, this strong-growing, cool season evergreen is perfect for southern and western gardens, as well as coastal sites.
A handome bamboo-like grass, this tough Australian native grows in the beds alongside our parking lot and draws praise from many visitors. Tall, thick canes to 6' tall bearing medium-green, narrow leaves are topped nearly year round by feathery plumes of flowers. These plumes open a pale green, then fade to cream and finally ash-gray, creating the illusion of a pillar of smoke. Plant in full sun or part shade in any well-drained soil and provide moderate to occasional water. A striking selection well-suited to coastal or inland gardens. Hardy to 20F. Australia.
