Nursery contributed plant descriptions

?Recommended to those interested in an unusual, yet desirable perennial? (Cumming and Lee); light airy texture produced by a profusion of delicate white flowers on slender 4' stems over a looong season. S/M-D
This is the straight species form, native to Texas and Louisiana, which has better luck wintering over here in zone 6 as long as the soil is sandy, yet fertile, and well-drained. The dainty white/pink fluttering blossoms are a favorite of butterflies and bees, Gaura naturalizes where happy by self sowing. Grows 3-5’, but can be sheared back in late spring for tighter plants.
A tough, hardy, clumping perennial, for full sun. One of the easiest plants to grow. Mounds of narrow, dark green, red spotted leaves produce, throughout the warmer months, tall wands of delicate white butterfly shaped flowers that sway in the slightest breeze. After flowering, or any time it's in need of a clean up, cut back to ground level. It will quickly regrow. An etremely tough plant tolerating all sorts of physical abuse (eg. being driven over, mowed, poisoned etc.) as well as complete summer dryness.Generally self seeds where happy, so cut back before seed fall if you find this undesirable.

A robust perennial or subshrub growing to 4' high and 3' wide and planted primarily for its abundant, colorful blooms. Mature plants have a rounded form and produce slender, leafy stems that bear many 1" long, white flowers that open from pink buds. Noted for its soft appearance and long blooming period in summer. A graceful choice for herbaceous borders and wild gardens, where it will attract butterflies by the dozens. Prefers full sun and light, well-drained soil with regular to moderate water. Give plants a good shearing annually to maintain a tidy form. Hardy to 0 °F. Texas, Louisiana.
