A green, spreading ground cover with small round leaves, white flowers, and red berries. Great for rock wall plantings or erosion control. Deer resistant.
Mr. Streib, of W. Germany, made this adorable "tiny find" some years ago. It is one of the most prostrate of Cotoneasters with tiny and dense evergreen leaves. S/M-D
The Strieb’s Findling Cotoneaster has a bit bigger leaves than the Thyme-Leaf Cotoneaster – it's easier to see in the larger or in-ground miniature garden. We suspect the branches will grow out and downward, eventually forming and umbrella-shaped canopy. Keep the trunk clean by pinching of any new growth. Semi-evergreen, white flowers in spring are followed by new berries for fall and winter color. Trim wayward growth to keep compact shape. Pinch off any new growth along the trunk. Supply is limited. White or pinkish flowers in the summer followed by red inedible berries. Trees are 15" tall. Great for in-ground or containers. Growth: 2” to 4” per year. Prune to shape, trim wayward shoots anytime. Pinch off any new growth along the trunk. Needs full sun, in desert areas shelter it from the hot sun. Cold hardy in Zones 5 to 9, or to -20 °F. Heat zones 8 - 3. Needs well-drained soil. Spreading growth habit. Regular water, let dry out to damp to avoid overwatering.
Zones: 4-9. Mounding type. Short branches with tiny leaves on semi evergreen dwarf. Slow growth to 6-10". Blooms in spring with white flowers producing red berries or apples in fall. Trim lower branches, stake upright for mini tree effect or let ramble as flowering ground cover. Note: Needs trimming to maintain tree shape. Photo taken in late summer shows mini fruit. Spreading over hill and dale, this evergreen groundcover features small, neatly arranged leaves and white star-like flowers in summer. China.
