The Dawn Redwood (Metasequoia glyptostroboides) is native to China and is one of the three surviving species of Redwood Trees, the other two (which we also sell) being native to California. All three Redwood species are considered endangered, but the Dawn Redwood was actually originally discovered only in the fossil record. In 1944, just a few surviving trees were found in China and were quickly propagated from. New trees have been planted around the world to hopefully prevent the extinction of this amazing conifer - you should add one to your landscape to help ensure the continuation of the species!
This Dawn Redwood forms a dense round ball with pretty cream-white needles.
Dwarf Dawn Redwood a colorful foliage on a small scale. Its compact form and variable deciduous foliage makes a nice color spot in any garden. Sun exposure will determine colors. In settings with full sun, yellow hues will dominate, while is a shadier area, the variegation will be creamier. As winter approaches, the foliage will turn a nice russet brown before being shed. In spite of it all, the waxy, fine, ferny foliage makes for quite the impression in the garden. Prefers organic rich well-drained soil. Sometimes sold as 'North Lights'
