Has a creamy white to pink margin to the leaves with a purple greenish center. Fades later in the season. Will have bright orange fall color.
Spectacular leaf coloration distinguishes this upright, but broad, form of Japanese maple. Very deeply divided, narrow leaf lobes display reliable light yellow-green and purple-red variegation, producing a striking effect. In fall, leaves turn orange to r
Manyo No Sato Japanese Maple is one of the most uniquely variegated of all Japanese maples. The summer foliage is a beautiful green and deep purple striped leaf pattern. The fall color is predominantly orange with red tinges. The name means "The wonderful place of nature".
Probably the most unique variegation we have ever seen in a Japanese Maple, 'Manyo no Sato' features lime leaves with purple variegation in the spring and early summer. Over the course of the year the leaves age through phases of more typical whiter variegation into an overall bright orange in the fall. Older trees tend to exhibit the purple variegation more than younger trees, where the leaves are more likely to be green with cream variegation with traces of purple. After 1-2 years the purple variegation is very reliable.
'Manyo no Sato' has an upright form and grows fairly wide with a thick trunk and lots of tight branches. Trees stay smaller than with most other Japanese Maple varieties, although this is not a true dwarf variety.

Care and Receiving Your Tree
Like with other plants that are shipped bare root, you should plant your tree as soon as possible. When planting be sure to spread the roots out a little so they are not clumped together at the bottom of the hole. Japanese Maples want the top of their root crown to be covered with just an inch of soil - be careful not to apply heavy mulch directly on top of the roots as this can suffocate them. Water heavily as soon as you plant your tree but after that be careful not to overwater this beautiful specimen - Japanese Maples prefer long but less frequent watering. During the growing season we water our established trees for two hours once per week, depending on the climate and how hot/dry the weather is (maybe a little more frequently during the hottest part of the year and less frequently during spring and fall when it is cooler). If you are growing your Japanese Maples in containers be sure to use a well-drained soil mix (not peat or compost based, bark based soils do best) and water whenever the soil starts to dry out.

Japanese Maples do best when fertilized in the spring, we recommend a slow release pellet like Osmocote Plus in April. Don't apply fertilizer later than mid-June because it will encourage too much late season growth that will not have time to harden off enough for winter. The exact formula doesn't matter too much, we usually use 15-10-10 but any other works fine for Japanese Maples. Osmocote is the brand we use because it releases steadily for several months and so there is very little risk of over-fertilizing your plants.

A relatively new cultivar – maple enthusiasts are discovering this rare and hard to find maple – ‘Manyo no sato’. A variegated cultivar with a base color similar to ‘Beni shi en’ combined with lime green streaks in the leaves to create a very unique look. In Japanese the name means “the wonderful place of nature”. The lime green streaks expand during the summer until the entire maple is no longer a dark color, but a light green with pink tints. In the fall the light green color changes to a tangerine orange and sometimes crimson. This cultivar can handle full sun to partial shade and has a dense, shrub-like growth habit. The ideal growing conditions would provide for sun nearly all day long, except during hot afternoon temperatures when some shade is preferred. The sun brings out the purple and lime green leaves which makes this maple awesome. The bright green bark adds to the the final WOW factor of this maple. A moderate growing cultivar – ‘Manyo no sato’ may reach 7′ in 10 years and for that reason it is an excellent container plant. I [Sam] am thoroughly enchanted with ‘Manyo no sato’. What a color combination – spring, summer and fall and with beautiful smooth green bark it is definitely an eye-catcher. Once established this cultivar is hardy to USDA zone 5. A small deciduous tree with deeply cut long leaves and irregular green and purple variegation - green and purple in spring and summer; orange and purple in fall. Very unusual, interesting color on this one. 6' T x 4' W in 10 years. Minimum temperature: -20°F
Irregular green and purple variegated leaves hold their color throughout the season. Similar, but more striking than the leaves on 'Beni shi-en'. Fall colors are purple and orange. Rare in the trade.
A beautiful specimen tree!! Irregular green and purple variegated on the leaves is truly eye-catching! Beautiful all through spring and summer with purple and oranges emerging in fall. Growth Rate medium
'Manyo no sato', which means "the wonderful place of nature", is one of the most uniquely variegated maples. Its spectacular variegation consists of a light yellow-green on a purple-brown base. Coloring is more spectacular in full sun. However, it is best grown with a little protection from afternoon sun. This upright maple can grow to 6 feet in ten years. Definitely one of my favorite maples!
This variety must be seen to be appreciated. By far one of the most uniquely variegated Japanese Maples. Leaves are irregular and strap-like with beautiful green and purple variegation. A wonderful selection for multiple season color. Fall color is purple and orange. The name means "the wonderful place of nature".
