?Fantastically white variegated? foliage on older trees and very slow compact (to only 4' in 15 years) growth make this gem a winner; foliage on young trees is less showily variegated...but wait! S-PSh/M
Heavily variegated leaves are prevalently white with about half of the leaf remaining the typical green color. Due to a lack of pigmentation in the leaves, this beech grows very slowly, and it may burn in full sun.
Wow, what a choice selection of 'Marmorata' with even more white marbling on its leaves. As this cultivar ages the foliage becomes more and more variegated to a point it's sometimes difficult to see any green. Best when planted where it gets a break from the hot afternoon sun and hot winds as the lightly colored leaves will scorch.
