A lovely representative of one of our favorite genera --the silk tassels -- this small shrub, found from Oregon's southern Siskiyou mountains to the northern California Coast Range, grows to 3-5' with blue tinted, furry leaves, the pale undersides sometimes appearing gold, and abundant winter catkins about 3-4" long, then blue-black fruit later in spring and summer -- at least on the girls. Very attractive, western native shrub, tolerant of mid shade to full sun and requiring only decent drainage and dry summers. Frost hardy in USDA zone 7.
