Violet, pea-shaped flowers arrive in profusion during mid-winter to brighten up the short days of the year. Tolerant to dry conditions, this Australian vine attracts much attention when in full bloom. A strong grower with stiff, leathery leaves, it can be grown in a hanging basket or staked in a potted container. To initiate flowering, make sure the nighttime temperatures are quite cool (about 40 °F) in late fall and early winter. Then, prepare to be amazed with its glorious show of blooms.
LILAC VINE - A twining vine growing to 6' in part shade with elongated oval dark green leaves that have a tough leather like texture and prominent veins. Prefers warmth and hardy to zone 9. Also known as "Happy Wanderer" , "Australian Sarsparilla", "Coral Pea". In late winter to spring - Large clusters of violet purple racemes on short hanging stems that resemble wisteria. Great for trellis, arbors, etc. Parts of this plant may be POISONOUS if ingested.
