Dark green leaves with neon purple fuzz, even more intense purple underside! This plant produces orange flowers- which can smell foul to some. This plant can have a weaker stem so encourage bushiness by pinching new growth.
Gynura aurantiaca, sometimes called Purple Passion Plant or Velvet Plant, is a lovely trailing houseplant with shimmery green, fuzzy leaves covered in spectacular purple hairs. The purple leaf color is more pronounced when exposed to bright light. Displays small, orange flowers with a less than desirable scent. Give this plant a lot of bright, indirect light, but avoid scorching sun rays. Prefers an average, well-drained soil that is kept moist from Spring to Fall. Reduce watering in winter. The foliage should be kept dry to avoid rot. Purple Passion Plant makes an excellent spiller plant in a mixed basket or container. It can be used as an annual outside or kept indoors as a houseplant. Protect from cold weather.
Purple velvet is a robust growing fleshy stemmed upright plant with large iridescent purple leaves covered with fuzz. Likes bright light to sun, color intensifies in brighter light. Great additive to container plantings.
