    Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Evergreen shrub that blooms nearly year round in warm areas; tubular crimson red flowers in clusters attract hummingbirds, butterflies and bees. Upright arching stems 6-8’ tall in clumps 3-5’ wide look nice in a corner. Full sun (part shade if summers are hot) most garden soils, regular summer water; deer resistant; being in the tomato family, this plant is toxic.
Cestrum newellii ‘Ruby Clusters’ is a tropical shrub that displays fragrant, showy clusters of scarlet red, tubular flowers followed by reddish-purple berries. Exhibits dark green, evergreen foliage. A tender perennial. Plant in a sheltered sunny position with moist, rich, well-drained soil. Jessamine is great for butterfly or hummingbird gardens. Deadhead regularly to encourage continuous bloom.
Just this side of tender, but worth taking a cutting to overwinter. Tall shrub, 6-8 ft x 3 ft wide. Ripe burgundy flowers are followed by glowing carmine berries. Sun or half sun, normal water. Excellent in a container as well. Evergreen to 20F and root hardy in USDA zone 8.
Possibly a hybrid between C. fasciculatum x C. elegans. Though this plant looks tough, its colorful waxy flowers give away its tropical origins. The clusters of unscented crimson flowers appear almost year round in mild climates against dark evergreen foliage and each blossom looks the perfect shape for a hummingbird's slender bill. Mature plants generally have an upright form to 6'. Plant in full sun with regular garden water. Some texts warn that this plant may be considered a weed in mild climates. Hardy to 20F.
Beloved by hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies, this lush Central and South American member of the Potato family has a colorful allure nearly all year round. Arching stems coated with mahogany-colored fuzz showcase profuse nodding clusters of waxy, deep red tubular flowers and purplish red berries dramatically set amid burgundy-tinged leaves, which are soft as velvet and taper to a point. A tall-standing vigorous evergreen shrub well-suited for a container, 'Newellii' blooms summer through winter and in some instances much longer, appreciating a protected wall or overhang, a light or heavy pruning to maintain its shape, moderate moisture and where its warm, partial shade.
Vigorous, evergreen shrub bearing tubular crimson flowers at branch tips from spring to autumn followed by red-purple berries. A very durable shrub. Hummingbird-friendly
RED CESTRUM - An evergreen shrub in zones 8-11, great for hedging. Likes sun, grows to 8' tall x 6' wide at maturity. Arching stems of soft velvety burgundy tinged leaves. Flowers year round in frost free areas displaying lots of waxy deep crimson red tubular flowers , followed by purplish red berries. In northern areas, blooms appear from spring to fall. Attracts birds, butterflies, and hummingbirds. Berries and sap are highly toxic if ingested.
