We were given a cutting of this special Begonia from longtime customer, and have finally learned more about her heritage. For those who like to know the details, 'Essie Hunt' was hybridized by a Ms. Mae Blanton of Texas in 1974, and it is a cross between B. conchifolia var. rubrimacula and B. manicata ‘Aureo-maculata Crispa.’ Grow Essie Hunt for her beautiful shiny apple green slightly spiral foliage enhanced by red coloring of the major veins. She is not a fast grower, but quite easy nonetheless, with pink blooms in winter. Grows to about 20" and dislikes chilly temperatures.
