Nursery contributed plant descriptions

A rough-textured shrub to 10' high with an equal spread and deeply lobed dark green leaves. Blue, 4" hibiscus-like flowers bloom most of the year in coastal climates. We carry the cultivar 'Santa Cruz' with dark blue flowers, and continue to experiment with other selections. Full sun or light shade is best, and care should be taken in colder climates as they are not particularly hardy. Drought tolerant when established but best with moderate garden water.
LILAC BLUE HIBISCUS - This plant is not the typical hibiscus, the foliage is much smaller and it is not a hardy type in zones colder than 9. It is a upright plant with deeply cut leaves and produces 3-4" lilac blue silky flowers that have 5 overlapping luminous petals in spring. Hardy zone 9-11. minimum temp 55 degrees. An Australia Native. Needs direct sun and perfers warmth. It is drought tolerant once established. Attracts humminbirds and is deer resistant.
