Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Dense, crowded clusters of intensely colored, serrated florets make up the medium to large, rounded deep reddish pink or intense blue-purple flower heads of this Big Leaf Hydrangea. Charm Red is an oldie but a goodie for those fortunate enough to live in mild winter climates as it is a little cold sensitive. In the northern portions of its range plant Charm Red on the east or a semi-shady southern location for additional protection for the flower buds. The plant itself is known to be hardy into zone 5 but it is best enjoyed in zones 8 and warmer or as a container plant.
This one is a 'Charm-er', get it? We have had this in the nursery since we first bought it. I'm kicking myself for not putting it on the site sooner. It is a knockout! Deep pink in the nursery and rich blue in our acidic soil. Wow! The origin of this one is totally unknown. I've seen it listed under 'Charm Red' at other nurseries. This is a compact plant but large and showy. Plant in a mass or in a container!
Charm is one of the best red colored hydrangeas around. A mop head type which frequently displays good fall colors in red, orange, and yellow. Grows to 3-4' in ten years
