Nursery contributed plant descriptions

The large rounded tropical foliage emerges a dark purplish red and soon lightens to a bronze-green with large pink patches in the middle of the leaf that provide the peacock-like design. Peacock Ginger is a slowly multiplying rhizomatous perennial for shaded gardens where its foliage is a standout. The light pink flowers emerge in spring before the foliage emerges. Peacock Gingers are considered the Hosta for the South where they revel in the heat and humidity. Provide them with a moist but not soggy, average to well-draining soil and shade to early morning sun for the best results. Once established Kaempferias need little care or maintenance and should bring you years of enjoyment. Be patient with them as the foliage may not emerge until mid to late spring after the flowers have finished.
This hybrid Kaempferia has beautiful large leaves suffused with pink over a pulchra like leaf pattern. It creates a wonderful ground over or low display in a woodlands garden. The colors are dramatic and it blooms in the spring prior to the foliage.
