Nursery contributed plant descriptions

The amazing fragrance of the greenish yellow to yellow flowers of the Ylang Ylang Tree is one of the main ingredients of Chanel #5. The large flowers open green and mature to yellow or a greenish yellow and the fragrance is noticeable even at a distance. Flowers are born throughout summer and will develop even on small trees under good conditions. The Ylang Ylang is a large growing tropical tree that can reach 30-50'H but can be kept shorter with pruning. Where the flowers are harvested to extract the oils, large trees are often kept at 10' high with pruning and it will regrow if coppiced. It revels in the heat, humidity, and full sun and should reward you with new growth and of course flowers. Where not hardy the Ylang Ylang can be grown as a container plant and overwintered indoors.
