Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Produces medium sized, pear shaped to rounded, purplish brown figs with an amber to strawberry flesh with good flavor and a small eye. Danny's Delite was originally found growing in southern Michigan and has been known to withstand temperatures as low as -5F so it certainly has excellent cold hardiness. An excellent choice for short summer regions as it is known to produce fruit even if frozen to the ground. Fig trees do best where they get at least 8 hours of direct sun per day. Once well established they are fairly drought tolerant but extended dry periods can cause leaf and fruit drop as well as early dormancy. A deep organic mulch will help to alleviate extremes in moisture levels, reduce nematode issues, as well as to reduce competition from weeds.
