Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Hollier fig produces a large crop of medium to large pear shaped to turbinate, yellow figs with a white flesh and amber pulp. It has excellent flavor and is very sweet! The Hollier Fig has one of the highest sugar contents of LSU's most recent fig releases at 19.8%. A good producer and worthy of consideration for container culture. Like most of the other LSU releases from Dr. Ed O'Rourke's breeding program, Hollier has good disease resistance, hardiness, and vigor and is an excellent choice for the South and Southeast US and is definitely worthy of trial in other fig growing regions. Fig trees do best where they get at least 8 hours of direct sun per day. Once well established they are fairly drought tolerant but extended dry periods can cause leaf and fruit drop as well as early dormancy. A deep organic mulch will help to alleviate extremes in moisture levels, reduce nematode issues, as well as to reduce competition from weeds.
