Nursery contributed plant descriptions

A stunning coneflower with bright pink/purple blooms whose petals are held horizontally instead of drooping like most coneflowers.
This cultivar offers striking magenta-red daisies on strong upright stems. Plant in full sun in average (not overly rich), well-drained soils. Avoid soils that are overly moist in winter. Photo courtesy of Walters Gardens
Hey Coneheads, don't get caught short we have an improved form of 'Magnus' with horizontally held intense carmine red petals atop meter high stems, supposedly this represents the ultimate coneflower, it will conquer the world, maybe. ZONE 4
The large purplish-red daisies with a wide, flat presentation are centered with orange tipped 'cones' that deepen to purplish-black toward the base. A slightly shorter stature and a more compact habit than it's highly popular cousin 'Magnus'. Echinacea or Purple Coneflowers are beautiful and hardy, clump forming fibrous rooted or taprooted North American native perennials that attract butterflies and other pollinators. This is one of the few plants that can compete for the attention that butterflies pay to the Porterweeds or Stachystarpheta species. These 'daisies' are actually a composite flower and are composed of a multitude of ray flowers (the wide normally colorful 'petals' of a 'daisy') and are centered by a 'cone' composed of a multitude of spirally arranged disc flowers. These clump forming perennials will perform well in well drained, normal to clay type soils with average nutrient levels. May flower from late-spring to fall.
