Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Blackberries grow fast!!! 'Prime-Jan' is a primocane-fruiting, erect, thorny cultivar that was released and patented by the University of Arkansas breeding program in 2004. Average berry size is 5 g with a range from 3 to 15 g. Soluble solids average 9–10 °Brix. 'Prime-Jan' is only recommended for home garden use due to erratic yields, poor postharvest keeping quality, and shipping potential. These are the key traits that make for a great backyard fresh eating blackberry patch.
This University of Arkansas release produces good yields of large sweet, small-seeded berries on erect canes. Prime-Jim produces fruit on this years canes (Prime canes) as well as last years unlike most blackberries which only fruit on second year canes (Flora canes). Good to moderate disease resistance. Prime-Jan Blackberries provide the best yields in mild summer areas where summer temperatures do not typically exceed 85F.
