Nursery contributed plant descriptions

This is a wonderful large shrub that will bloom in August. The upright flowers are a mid blue and flower for an extended season. We have seen V. agnus-castus completely surrounded by paving and thriving.
Large spikes of purple-blue fragrant flowers, reportedly to 18" long, are borne in summer and are held atop the soft green fragrant foliage. A large deciduous, drought tolerant shrub with an upright to spreading habit. Vitex have few pests or diseases and are great for butterflies and bees. Selected by the noted plant guru Herbert Kelly, Jr. A light pruning to remove spent flowers can bring flowers nearly until frost. Vitex are great for summer color and their large spikes of colorful flowers attract butterflies and bees. Vitex are adaptable to a wide variety of soil types and are considered to be drought tolerant enough to be suitable for Xeric gardens. These durable and easily grown shrubs are basically pest and disease free, are deer resistant, and are moderately salt tolerant. Removing spent flowers and seed heads will promote the production of wave after wave of new flowers throughout the summer and into fall.
An improved, some would say, sensational, selection of the Chaste Tree with especially heavy and showy spikes of lavender blue flowers in late summer and early fall. This leafs out late in spring and makes a large rounded shrub or small tree. Not fussy with low water and nutrient needs.
