Bronze Fennel plant details

Bronze Fennel is a broadleaf deciduous perennial herb with bronze and chocolate foliage. In fall and summer mustard flowers emerge followed by black and brown fruit. Attracts bees, beneficial insects, birds and butterflies making it an excellent addition to pollinator gardens. Grows well with sun - mostly sun and regular - low water. Adapts to various soil conditions. Does well in average, gritty, lean, rich, rocky and well-drained soil. A good option if you're seeking something heat tolerant.

Feathery, fragrant wands of bronze purple upright to 3-4’, about half as wide on this useful pretty perennial. Edible leaves and seeds used as flavoring and medicinal herb. Very attractive to beneficial insects, bees, butterflies and birds! Easy in full sun, some summer water in most soils. Deadhead if reseeding is not desired.
A froth of fresh-as-spring green with elegantly divided foliage. Mix with hollyhocks for a beautiful garden border. Fennel is an important source of food for Swallowtail butterfly larvae. Self sows.
Bronze feathery foliage. Quite tall, usually about 6 feet. Seeds are good for cooking.

An outstanding plant in the border, providing a hazy contrast to more solid colors and foliage. Try it with Lupinus 'Chandelier', Lilium 'Connecticut King', and Anthemis kelwayii. Will form a big clump and self seed unless you deadhead (which is easily done in the Autumn).
FOENICULEM VULGARE - Bronze sweet fennel has feathery leaves of bronzy-brownish-burgundy tones with a intense fennel fragrance. Hardy zone 5-11. Likes full sun. Attracts swallowtail butterflies. Yellow flowers. Great in salads. .
The dark colored purplish-bronze finely textured foliage makes a beautiful addition to the perennial border or the butterfly garden. Mix it with Golden Delicious Pineapple Sage or other yellow foliaged and flowering plants for a great combination. Fennel is a host for the Eastern Black Swallowtail caterpillar. The broad clusters of tiny yellow flowers attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies as well as a host of other beneficial insects.
