Nursery contributed plant descriptions

White Candles is a shade loving shrub-like perennial that produces Jacobinia-like spikes of 2" pure white tubular flowers throughout most of the year. The large tropical dark green foliage creates the perfect foil for the brilliant white flowers. This is an excellent choice for container culture. We most commonly see White Candles at about 2-3' high in containers but it is known to reach 6' or more in its native habitat and it is amenable to pruning to keep at a more appropriate size. For the best performance, provide White Candles with a warm shaded location in a moist but well-draining slightly acidic soil. It will tolerate early morning sunlight but prefers bright shade and it will have the best foliage color where it gets midday and afternoon shade.
