PINWHEEL JASMINE - INDIAN CARNATION - CREPE JASMINE - Also known botanically as Ervatamia coronaria - A tropical, rambling shrub with glossy green foliage, hardy in zones 9b-11. Likes sun to part shade, growing up to 8' tall and 6' wide at maturity. Flowering all year with 1.5" white, 5 petaled pinwheel-like blooms with a tiny yellow center. Fragrant during the day but intensifies in the evening.
An endless procession of 1.5" white, pinwheel-like blooms are held atop the glossy, deep green, tropical foliage. The flowers may have a light fragrance during the day that intensifies by night. An easily grown tropical shrub. Tolerant of full sun, but foliage is most beautiful in partial shade. The India Carnation can be grown in alkaline soils but typically needs ample fertilize to overcome the pH. May be grown in full sun in cooler summer climates but partial sun will provide the best foliage in hot southern regions. Grow the Crape Jasmine in containers where not cold hardy. Moderately drought tolerant once well-established.
