Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Massive spikes of crimson blooms, to 24" high and 16" wide, are held above the large, tropical, heart-shaped leaves. Blooms throughout summer and into fall. A tough old Heirloom that will slowly spread by underground runners finding its way to the perfect garden position. In freeze free climates the Japanese Glory Bower can grow to into a 12' high shrub with flowers on every branch. This species can be differentiated from the Java Glorybower, Clerodendrum speciosissimum, by the tiny orange glands that develop on the underside of mature leaves. C. speciosissimum foliage is noticeably more pubescent giving the leaves a very soft feel whereas the leaves of C. japonicum are seemingly hairless and somewhat rough or scabrous to the touch and are significantly larger. Both are excellent tropicals for the garden anywhere they are hardy.
